About our Facilitators:

Rachel Taane (Community Mobiliser – Hikitia! For Our Future)

Rachel is a passionate facilitator, registered social worker, and survivor who has recently stepped into a new role as a Community Mobiliser in the primary prevention of sexual and family violence. With over a decade of frontline experience in AOD rehabilitation, mental health, and violence prevention, she brings both professional expertise and lived insight to her work. Rachel works alongside communities to drive grassroots change, amplify marginalised voices, and create safer, more inclusive environments. Known for her creativity, energy, and commitment to social justice, she delivers honest, engaging, and transformative education rooted in connection and hope.

Hattie Young (Community Mobiliser – Hikitia! For Our Future)

With a background in sociology, criminology, and youth work, Hattie brings a strong foundation in social issues and community development. Over the past four years, she has delivered healthy relationship education in high schools and disability support settings, creating safe and inclusive spaces for young people to learn and grow. For the past two years, she also facilitated community workshops focused on understanding sexual violence.. Now working as a Community Mobiliser in the primary prevention of family and sexual harm, Hattie is passionate about creating systemic change through education, empowerment, and community-led action.

Helen Nijssen (FV SV Practice Lead – Hikitia! For Our Future)

With 20 years of frontline experience in child protection at Oranga Tamariki, Helen brings deep insight into the realities facing Tamariki and whānau. Over the past decade, their work has focused on the intersection of child protection and family violence, navigating complex systems to support safety and wellbeing. Now working as a Practice Lead in the primary prevention of family and sexual violence, including child sexual abuse, Helen is on a journey to explore new, community-led ways to prevent harm and uplift the protective factors that keep our Tamariki safe. Their work is grounded in a vision of a future where every child grows up free from violence.
