In our first webinar, Daimhin Warner from Simply Privacy (www.simplyprivacy.co.nz) will host an expert panel discussion with Associate Professor Gehan Gunasekara and Katrine Evans on recent changes to the Privacy Act 2020 and the implications for researchers, covering topics relating to:

  • Data minimisation
  • Transparency and fairness of collection
  • Consent vs notice
  • Use limitations
  • De-identification
  • Data sharing

		Privacy Act Changes - Essential Information for Researchers image

Gehan Gunasekara is an Associate Professor in Commercial Law at the University of Auckland Business School where he specialises in privacy law. Gehan is Chair of Privacy Foundation NZ (www.privacyfoundation.nz) and has published extensively on information governance and privacy in Aotearoa and overseas, and is a regular commentator in national media.


		Privacy Act Changes - Essential Information for Researchers image

Katrine Evans is a specialist privacy and information lawyer and is the current Manager of Information Sharing and Privacy at Te Manatū Whakahiato Ora (Ministry of Social Development). Katrine was Assistant Commissioner (General Counsel) to the Privacy Commissioner between 2004 and 2015 and is currently co-convenor of the international working group at Privacy Foundation NZ.

Daimhin Warner is Principal and Director at Simply Privacy NZ and the New Zealand Country Leader for the International Association of Privacy Professionals. Simply Privacy provides a range of services to research organisations to ensure compliance with the Privacy Act 2020.
