In his inaugural lecture, Vili will talk about his journey navigating as a Niue academic, working in Niue research, Pacific Health, Pacific men's health and landing in the Pacific addictions research space. He talks about his academic journey and the many individuals who have contributed towards his academic career pathway.

Vili was born in Niue and immigrated to New Zealand as a preschooler. He was brought up and educated in Grey Lynn, Central Auckland and Mangere East, South Auckland. He has a Bachelor of Arts in Education & Sociology, Master of Arts (Hons) in Sociology and a PhD in Behavioural Science, at the University of Auckland. He was the first person from the Island of Niue to have graduated with a Doctor of Philosophy. He has 130 plus research publications, $20 million dollars as a co-investigator or principal investigator, he has mentored, supervised well over 100 plus students and 15 completed PhDs. In 2018 he was the first Pacific health academic to receive the Faculty of Medical Health Sciences Butland Award for Excellence in Research Supervision. In 2019 he was awarded the Pasifika Medical Association Group, Service Award 2019 for Outstanding Service to the Pacific Health Sector and Community. He has been a strong advocate for growing the Pacific health workforce, Pacific student researchers internationally, the Pacific region and in New Zealand.

Drinks and canapés will be served in the atrium at the conclusion of the lecture. This is a private event for University of Auckland staff members and invited guests of Professor Nosa.
