Event description

Description

A night with commercial, hobby and enthusiasts of the Queenstown Lakes beekeeping world.

About this Event

Connect with like minded peers to help create a bee haven here in the Wakatipu!

In an attempt to help prevent pest, disease and over crowding Honey & Cocoa commissioned beehive art work earlier this year to raise money for our bee keeping community. They donated $2500.00 to Wasp Wipeout and are hosting 3 evenings to connect our community and make Queenstown an extra special place for the honeybee.

Honey & Cocoa have teamed up with the leaders in Apiculture here in New Zealand along with honey company Be. Local Collective to deliver three nights of socializing and learning.

If you're just setting out, thinking of owning a hive or are already years into beekeeping this night is for you. We will put on some nibbles and a few drink specials as well as engaging demonstrations from the best in the bees-ness. (Couldn't help myself).

Three different topics over three different nights!

Yum! I think it tastes like… honey! With a touch of… honey?

Honey connoisseur training and tasting notes from one of the top honey connoisseurs in the world! Bring along your honey to share and compare, plus vote for your favourite one to take home the Best Queenstown Honey Award!

Where should I start and where am I going wrong?

Help for beginners and pro's alike, as well as trouble shooting tips from Apiculture specialist and Southland commercial beekeeper Russel Marsh as well as an update on whats happening throughout the ever changing New Zealand bee industry and what we can do to help with Apiculture New Zealand Chief Executive Karin Kos,

These pests are ruining my hives!

Varroa Destructor prevention and treatment, organic solutions and subsidized treatment options for hobbyists, as well as wasp elimination (Vespex) plus Honey & Cocoa would like to sponsor local volunteers (you?) to become vespex handlers, we will pay for your training and provide bait and bait stations. If we all have healthy hives, Queenstown will become a bee haven!
