A Real Talk Workshop for Parents and Teens: Because the big convos start small.

Whether you’re a parent wondering why your teen only grunts at you (on a good day), or a teen wondering why your parent can’t just chill and not make it a thing, you’re in the right place.

Let’s be honest: communication between parents and teens can get... awkward. One minute you're bonding over memes, TikToks, or embarrassing family stories, and the next, you're locked in a battle over curfews, screen time, or the classic “we need to talk.”

If you're a teen thinking,

“Ugh, why do they always turn everything into a life lesson?”

Or a parent wondering,

“Why do they shut down the second I try to talk?”

Then this workshop is for you.Yes — both of you.

What This Workshop Is All About

A Real Talk Workshop for Parents and Teens is an experience designed to help you reset, reconnect, and find new ways to talk to each other, even when it feels like you’re speaking different languages.

It’s a gentle, engaging, and often funny space to explore how you show up in conversations, without needing to fix each other or dredge up old wounds.

You’ll learn simple tools that make talking easier and feel more like you’re on the same team, even when you disagree.

This workshop is specifically designed for one parent and one teen (13+) to attend together. Everything we do is built around helping you hear each other, understand one another’s perspectives, and walk away with tools you’ll actually use in real life.

Here’s What Makes This Workshop Different

This isn’t therapy. It’s not school. And no one’s going to force you to spill your deepest thoughts in front of strangers. (Unless you want to. Then go for it!)

Instead, it’s a guided, down-to-earth experience where:

  • You’ll laugh at the awkward stuff you’ve both said and done
  • You’ll practise conversations without the usual drama
  • You’ll realise you’re not the only parent-teen duo who finds this stuff tricky
  • You’ll get to say the things you wish the other person understood
  • You’ll both feel less alone and more supported

And the best part? You’ll learn together. In real time. In a room full of others figuring it out, too.

By the end of the workshop, you’ll both leave with:

✔️ Practical tools to make future conversations easier (and less awkward)

✔️ A stronger sense of trust, even if things have felt strained lately

✔️ Ways to say hard things without shutting down, blowing up, or backing off

✔️ A shared understanding of what matters most to each of you

✔️ New language for setting boundaries and talking about big feelings

✔️ Confidence to talk about tricky stuff, with fewer eye-rolls and more clarity

✔️ A few “Whoa… I didn’t realise you felt that way” moments

✔️ Some surprising laughs (and maybe even a warm fuzzy feeling or two)

Led by Tammy McCann & Carolyn Aukafolau

This experience is co-facilitated by Tammy and Carolyn, two parent coaches with decades of experience working with young people, and families.

We’re also real-life parents who know what it’s like to sit on both sides of the conversation.

We bring structure and support, but also lightness and warmth. Our aim is to make this feel like a day of connection, not correction.

We’re not here to tell you what you’re doing wrong. We’re here to create a space where you can both feel seen, heard, and supported as you figure out what works for you.

Tailored to What You Need

Once you book your spot, we’ll invite you to share a bit about your current challenges, curiosities, or goals. This isn’t a cookie-cutter event, we’ll shape the day around what really matters to the people in the room.

Whether you want to rebuild connection, communicate more clearly, or simply have a few conversations that don’t end in frustration, we’ll meet you where you are.

Perfect For Parents + Teens (13+ Years)

This is for you if:

  • You want fewer fights and more understanding
  • You’re ready for real tools — not just vague advice
  • You want to reconnect, reset, or strengthen an already good relationship
  • You’re curious, open, and willing to give something new a try
