Event description
The Government plans to introduce auctioning of New Zealand Units (NZUs) into the New Zealand Emissions Trading Scheme (NZ ETS).

About this Event

The Government plans to introduce auctioning of New Zealand Units (NZUs) into the New Zealand Emissions Trading Scheme (NZ ETS). The rules for how auctions will be run are to be set through regulation.

The Government is implementing auctioning as part of a package of reforms to improve the NZ ETS and enable it to align with New Zealand’s emissions targets. Proposals for the rules to govern auctions include: scheduling and price controls; each stage of the auction process (pre-bidding, bidding, post-bidding); and some aspects of the role of an independent auction monitor.

The Government is seeking views on proposals for these auctioning regulations.
