About this event

  • 7 hours 30 minutes

You have probably been practicing for a while now and feel like you're on the right track - but how would you really know? Supervision can feel like you're working inside a black box sometimes - with the practice of other supervisors mostly invisible to you.

You may be wondering:

  • Is what you learned when you trained as a supervisor still relevant?
  • What new research or understanding is out there now?
  • How do other professions approach supervision and what can we learn from each other?

Join Fiona Howard and Erica Hodgson in an interactive workshop as we re-visit and extend some key models and principles of effective supervision practice.

We will explore key aspects of:

  • Reflective practice in supervision
  • Crafting questions to help supervisees get to the answer themselves
  • How to respond to the different needs of supervisees
  • Common dilemmas that present in supervision and a simple process to help supervisees resolve challenging issues

Plenty of opportunity will be given to discuss concepts, learning from the group’s shared experience.

What you will take away:

  • A review of your own supervision practice and the next steps in your learning journey
  • An understanding of the current context of supervision
  • A new network of other professional supervisors to connect with

Format of the days:

The course will run for 1 day from 9am to 4.30pm in Auckland.

Who this course is for:

We view professional supervision as a process of reflection within a safe trusting relationship. As a collaborative process, focussed on the supervisees agenda, it aims to enhance competence, promote learning and strengthen wellbeing at work. We welcome attendees across the wide range of professions now using this type of supervision to build staff capability and wellbeing. You may know it by other names, but it does not include managerial oversight of employees.

Prerequisite:

This course is suitable for experienced professional supervisors who have attended an introductory supervision training in the past and are looking for a refresher - we will be whipping through the basic concepts.
