The Ministry of Education invites you to a series of Zoom webinars that explore the connection of the Professional Learning and Development (PLD) priorities to other areas within the education sector.

This webinar is: Relationship and Sexuality Guidelines and the PLD priorities, presented by Stephen Raynes and Clare O’Connell, Ministry of Education.

The focus of the session will be relationships and sexuality education within the New Zealand Curriculum, looking specifically at the 2020 updated guidelines. It will cover the 2020 refresh and what this means for teachers, leaders and boards of trustees. This webinar will include information about the strengthened aspects of the guides including LGBTIQA+ content, the impacts of pornography and staying safe online. We will also discuss legal and policy obligations in this area including community consultation on the health curriculum. We will also be previewing upcoming RSE supports being developed by the Ministry.

The PLD priorities were introduced in late-2020. They are key levers to strengthen and shift teaching practice, capabilities, and educational leadership to support ākonga to realise their aspirations and thrive with their whānau and communities.

These sessions will be relevant to PLD facilitators, PLD provider organisations, schools, kura, PLD leads in schools, principals and tumuaki and regional office Ministry staff.
