Event description

Description

Robot experts are coming to Mitre 10 Mega for the NZ International Science Festival!

Bring the family for a fascinating night out meeting local and international scientists working on smarter, more efficient robots.

6pm: Refreshments on arrival

6:15pm: Presentations from Malcolm MacIver (USA) and Mike Paulin (NZ).

6:45: Q&A

7:00: See robots in action, they are not what you expect!

Animals are smart, agile and energy efficient in their natural habitats. They cooperate with other species, keeping ecosystems clean and productive. A new generation of autonomous robots is currently being developed in labs around the world, based on new discoveries in animal ecology and neuroscience, combined with advances in materials, sensors and computing. Our homes, farms and factories may soon be inhabited by families of small robots moving quietly among us, providing services efficiently and effectively while maintaining themselves without human intervention.

Malcolm MacIver, Professor of Neuroscience and Robotics at Northwestern University, Chicago will be joined by Neuroscientists, Zoologists and Computer Scientists from the University of Otago to introduce you to your future housemates and workmates.
