Event description

Description

We are running a movie fundraiser for Women's Refuge and End Polio Now! on the 23rd of October at Nga Taonga; a screening of the 2015 film Suffragette. As it has been 125 years since Women's Suffrage in New Zealand and the 24th of October is World Polio Day we felt they are both important causes to support. The event begins at 5pm, with drinks and raffles until the movie starts at 6pm and should finish by 8pm.

Tickets are $12 with all proceeds from the night going to our two charity causes, you are able to pay for these online (with processing fees) or in person (in cash) on the night; however you must book online either way to ensure you have a seat. There will also be a few raffles on the night and drinks will be available for purchase from the bar (both alcoholic and non-alcoholic).

Suffragette is a 2015 film starring Carey Mulligan, Meryl Streep and Helena Bonham Carter. Set in 1912, this British historical drama follows Maud (Carey Mulligan), a working mother who becomes involved in the growing U.K. suffragette movement alongside women from all walks of life, including Emmeline Pankhurst (Meryl Streep). This is a moving and raw depiction of courageous women who risked all they had - their jobs, homes, children and even their lives - for women’s right to vote.
