About this event
Room 1D08, Block 1 Te Whare Pūkākā, College of Creative Arts, Massey University Wellington.
Te Rewa o Puanga/The School of Music and Creative Media Production at Massey University is proud to host a one-day symposium for music educators across the motu. The symposium, which will be facilitated by sexual harm prevention experts Rachel Harrison and Mel Calvesbert, will focus specifically on the creation and promotion of safer spaces in music education.
While the music industry has increasingly engaged with the causes of and necessary responses to sexual harm in music, it remains clear that tailored solutions are needed for educators, that must be developed collaboratively and proactively to engage with the different challenges faced in pedagogical contexts at all levels.
The hui will focus on extending the mahi established by Jeni Little in the Safer Spaces in Music Education programme. This symposium offers an opportunity for educators to meet kanohi ki te kanohi to discuss the specific issues facing harm prevention in music education contexts, and collaboratively develop proactive solutions, with the support and guidance of experts in the field.
Attendance is free. Catering will be provided. This event will only go ahead at the Orange level of the COVID-19 Protection Framework. QR codes and manual sign-in for contract tracing are available throughout the campus buildings. Please show your My Vaccine Pass upon arrival. Masks are recommended in common areas on campus.
