The University of Auckland is delighted to invite you to our Alumni & Friends Reception Samoa.

The event will be an opportunity for you to meet other graduates based in Samoa, expand professional and social networks and hear a university update from the Deputy Vice-Chancellor Jenny Dixon.

We are also excited to announce that this evening will feature the launch of Toeolesulusulu’s new book: Pacific alumni.

The University of Auckland will be co-hosting with David Nicholson, New Zealand’s High Commissioner to Samoa.

Speakers

Our speakers look forward to sharing with you the University’s latest research and initiatives, especially those centered on the Pacific, and how these will impact Samoa and our Samoan students.

Professor Jenny Dixon leads global engagement at the University of Auckland. She is responsible for the international portfolio, government and stakeholder engagement, alumni relations and development and Pacific Strategy and Engagement. She has oversight of the newly established North Asia Centre of Pacific Excellence and the Auckland Confucius Institute. She took up her role as Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Strategic Engagement) in 2012, following periods as Head of the School of Architecture and Planning and later Dean of the Faculty of Creative Arts and Industries. Professor Dixon chairs a number of university and external bodies, including the NZ Institute for Pacific Research, the Universitas 21 (U21) Senior Leaders Group and the Association for Pacific Rim Universities (APRU) Asia-Pacific Women in Leadership steering group. In addition, She represents the University on the Asia-Pacific Association for International Education (APAIE) and NZUS Council.



Toeolesulusulu Damon Salesa is a scholar of Pacific politics, history, culture and society. A Samoan born and raised in Glen Innes, Auckland, he is currently University Director of Pacific Strategy and Engagement and Associate Professor of Pacific Studies at the University of Auckland.

While guests enjoy meeting and networking throughout the evening, light refreshments will be served.

There will also be a business card prize draw.

Hibiscus & Ruthless

We also invite you to a screening of ‘Hibiscus & Ruthless’.

This feature film was directed by University of Auckland Samoan alumni, Stallone Vaiaoga-Ioasa who will be joining us at the event.
