Sarah trained at Kingston and then the Bartlett Schools of Architecture, before working for a number of small practices – not least FAT (Fashion Architecture Taste). In 2001 she completed a Masters degree through the London School of Economics’ Cities programme. Sarah reflectst: ‘Th[is] course gave us a lot to think about – socio-economic drivers, that geography matters and the broader influences that shape places... In short, why some places succeed and others don’t and how you might possibly change that.’

In 2003 Sarah began work at the Commission for Architecture and the Built Environment (CABE) - a non-departmental advisory group to the UK Government. This was followed by a project manager position at East Hampshire District Council in 2012. Here she worked on "eco-town"; development of six zero-carbon mixed-use urban areas (housing and commercial). After a period in practice at Solidspace, Sarah was appointed Head Architect to the UK Government in 2021.
