Event description

Description

This session will explore the theme of soil through painting and drawing by using soil from scratch and children will learn how to make their own paint. This is a fun and ancient painting activity that connect us directly to the prehistoric cave paintings, and old masters' techniques. The aim of this workshop is to give us a deeper appreciation for soils and their value making visible the connection between art and nature. The colour and texture of soil painting is fascinating and a creative opportunity for students of all ages. Children who came to the first workshop will have made their own crayon sticks which are now dry and ready to use. They will use soft crayon techniques for underpainting followed up by making their own paint out of soil for a thicker finish.

This workshop is the second in our Soil Series of January School Holiday nature-based art workshops. Join in all three to explore soil and compost critters, painting and drawing with natural soil pigments, and crayon making. Workshops are geared toward children ages 7-12 (please contact us if you have a child outside this age group who would like to attend). Materials provided, please bring a sun hat/sunscreen and a packed lunch. Please contact sarah.james@ecomatters.org.nz with any questions.

Workshop tutor: Ekarasa Doblanovic, Art Grounds
