Screening of Refuge: A Duty to Care (2024), a documentary by Professor Annie Goldson

Refuge: A Duty to Care is a 40-min documentary that explores a secret haven, the Pet Refuge, located in rural Aotearoa NZ, that temporarily shelters domestic animals from violent homes. Research shows that a majority of victims of family violence stay in dangerous situations for too long, fearing that their animals will be harmed, neglected, or killed. The documentary combines a mosaic of scenes of life at Pet Refuge with compelling stories of survivors.

Professor Bernadette Luciano will conduct a Q&A on ‘the making of..’ with Annie who produced, directed, recorded sound and edited the film. A light lunch will follow at 1 pm for those who can stay and talk.
