Event description

Description

A fun introduction to coding, micro:bits and MakeCode for keen kids aged 10-14 years!

This is an introduction to coding and computer science by way of making, designing, and using a micro:bit microcontroller board, as well as the MakeCode block-based coding environment. It is a project-based workshop with a maker philosophy at its core; the idea is that you learn by making.

The BBC micro:bit is a pocket-sized computer that can easily realize your creativity without much electrical and coding knowledge. There are numerous possibilities of creation, from robots to musical instruments.

The Grove Inventor Kit for micro:bit brings endless possibilities to your micro:bit. The core board in this kit is the Grove shield for micro:bit v2.0, with which you can use plenty of Grove modules including sensors, display, and actuator to interact with micro:bit.

If you never used and have no idea what Grove is, all you need to know is that with Grove, there is no need for soldering or jump wires any more. Your prototyping will be easier and much more convenient.

With these Grove modules, you can measure distance and display it, use gesture to play different music, and much more.

If you are a beginner to micro:bit, don’t worry because we have 12 different projects to choose from, and each have step by step instructions. If you are an advanced user, this kit will help you to create more creative project.

Don’t forget to bring a drink bottle and afternoon tea!

This workshop is part of the Smartbots robotic project running throughout Tasman, Nelson and Marlborough supported by Curious Minds He Hihiri I Te Mahara, and is in kind partnership with Richmond Library’

.
