Solving Literacy Underachievement. An Intro to Structured Literacy

About this Event
Lifting Literacy Aotearoa is hitting the road and will be in Wellington on 1 December to give a public lecture on NZ's Literacy Crisis and what can be done about it.
We will give a shortened version of a presentation we will be giving to the Ministry of Education the following day, and will cover the following:
- Literacy in a wider policy context- why it matters and what the root problem in NZ is with our underachievement (Bronwyn Bayne)
- An introduction to the Science of Reading and Structured Literacy (Emma Nahna)
- A snapshot of what is happening in NZ schools (Carla McNeil and Liz Kane)
- the experience of implementing Structured Literacy: challenges, success factors, results (TBC)
- the way forward (Alice Wilson)
