Sound Bath Experience: Ngā Wā o te Tau

Experience Sound Bath Experience: Ngā Wā o te Tau, a journey through the seasons inspired by the natural rhythms of Aotearoa. “Ngā Wā o te Tau” means “The Seasons,” and this sound bath, guided by Smita and Peter with the rich tones of taonga pūoro and waiata, invites reflection on the cycles of nature and our connection to the world around us.

This immersion takes you from winter’s stillness, through spring’s blossoms, summer’s warmth, and autumn’s release, attuning to the changing energies of each season. Unique sounds encourage reflection, connection, and inner calm, while gentle karakia and mindful intention weave the journey together, creating a meditative space to pause and breathe.

After the sound bath, enjoy a nourishing plant-based dinner and dessert included in your ticket — a wholesome way to close the evening in good company.

Meet your hosts & musicians, Smita & Peter:

Smita (Ngāi Te Rangi) was born and raised in Aotearoa. From a young age she was drawn to music as a means for reflection and self-expression. During her music studies at university, she was introduced to taonga pūoro, and this sparked a personal journey of reconnection to te ao Māori and her own whakapapa. Following university, she lived in an ashram for several years where she was introduced to the wonderful practice of bhakti yoga. She now lives with her husband in the Wellington region, where they regularly participate in kirtan (mantra music meditation) at Bhakti Lounge.

Peter is Pākehā, with grandparents from England and Ireland, and has been on a four-year journey learning the art of taonga pūoro — the traditional Māori musical instruments of Aotearoa. Guided by the wisdom and generosity of expert makers and players, he has learned both to craft and to play these unique instruments. For Peter, taonga pūoro offer a way to connect deeply with sound, story, and the natural world, and he is excited to share their voices as part of this sound bath experience.
