Event description
Explore the remnant Staveley Forest with kaitiaki gen de spa

About this event

Staveley Camp’s precious protected remnant forest has been ravaged by the recent series of fierce winds, and Bowyers Stream completely re-organised by the May/June floods. This is nature in its dynamic flow, ever-changing, ever-regenerating.

Alongside nature, we are continuing working to tip the balance towards our regenerating native species and away from the exotic species always keen to take hold. With more funding recently and very gratefully secured from the Canterbury Regional Council (ECAN) we will see another great leap forward in exotics removal in the coming year.

Be part of the ongoing journey of this remnant regeneration by coming along on this free guided tour of the forest, where you can experience the changes each year. Along the way hear about the work of a small group of dedicated people over the past decades who have cared for the little remnant native forest at Staveley Camp.

Be prepared for a series of natural obstacles and potential bush-bashing as the tracks are still in the process of being cleared and the winds don’t seem to be stopping yet! Sturdy shoes, long pants and loppers wouldn't go amiss!

This event is part of the Staveley Camp Open Weekend - feel free to come and stay for the weekend or pop in when it suits.
