This Story Edge Sandbox will provide insights from Weta Digital and StoryBox directors on techniques to create immersive stories - the intersection of story and digital arts. Designed for anyone interested in extending their storytelling into new media, looking for inspiration and new directions. Learn about the world of immersive storytelling through the intersection of art, design and digital technology.
Open to all. Students welcome.
Weta Digital - pipeline development supervisor Kevin Romond in a Q and A on working at Weta Digital, creating story worlds using VFX - and how to make a career in this unfolding discipline. Kevin and his team have delivered complex simulated effects for over a dozen feature films including Rise of the Planet of the Apes, The Adventures of Tintin, Iron Man 3, Prometheus, The Avengers, Man of Steel, The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey and The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug. His work on Tintin earned him an Annie Award for Animated Effects.
Kevin also lectures at Victoria University and helped develop a Master’s degree in digital content creation and visual effects.
Storybox directors Rob Appierdo and Jess Feast on creating an immersive story: Get inspired by your own location as you discover insights into site-specific immersive installations at the intersection of art and design technology. After a brainstorming session with Storybox directors, walk away with ideas on how to develop your own site-specific adventure. Rob and Jess are the force behind some truly innovative stories and events including "The Woman Who Forgot", a Wellington Festival digital immersive project.
Story Edge brings together storytellers, designers, creative technologists and producers from across Aotearoa New Zealand to collaborate on transformative, immersive stories told across interactive digital platforms.
