An all-day hui for Educationalists to learn about Digital Storytelling and the Digital Tools available to them.

About this event

Are you ready to immerse yourself in a full day of Digital Storytelling?

The Storytelling Hui, has been created for Educationalists to immerse themselves in a full day of Storytelling, and the Digital Tools available to them.

This day will help you build your knowledge around storytelling, add to your digital kete, and show you new ways to bring stories alive in the classroom for ākonga.

9:00 – 9:45 Morgan Matthews Hale – Storytelling through Art

10:00 – 10:05 Reflection time in booklet

10:05-10:35 Rocky Roberts

10:35 – 11:00 Paramanawa – Morning kai

11:00-11:20 Quick Fire intro to digital tools

11:20-12:40 Choose with your feet; Minecraft EE, Scratch, Genially, MicroBit, and Canva.

12:40 Kai o te Rānui

1:10 - Kōrero and planning

1:30 - 2:00 Emma Dilemma - Storytelling through Music

2:00-3:00 Sir Ian Taylor - The untold migration story - storytelling through digital data

3:00 - 3:30 Prizes and closing karakia

3:30-4:30 Gin, Kai, and waiata with The Moses

Sir Ian Taylor

Among other awards, Sir Ian Taylor is the recipient of the 2010 North & South Magazine’s New Zealander of the Year. He is a man who brings a maverick style to his work, and has the ability to inspire the passion of those around him.

During his talk, Sir Ian Taylor will introduce you to the amazing Mātauranga resource that is his teams koha to education. Through storytelling, Sir Ian will take you on a journey of his experiences, and how they relate to the education sector in Aotearoa.

Morgan Matthews Hale

Morgan is the founder of Kaitiaki Studios in Ōtautahi, Christchurch. It is an ever-evolving space of artistic development.

Morgan prides herself on the ability to include Māori design, with reference to local narratives or values of each individual or organisation. Connecting our communities with stories and tikanga from Te Ao Māori in a way that is inclusive and collaborative.

She finds true joy in visual expression and storytelling, and in seeing the impact her work has on the people who interact with it.

Koha

This event is free for Educationalists to attend, but we have some extras to share with you.

  • Kai during the day
  • Reflection journals
  • Prizes and drinks at the end of the day

Delivered in English Medium with Te Ao Māori values woven through the day.

Why is this event free?

DSTA is committed to supporting the development of resources and learning opportunities for kaiako throughout Aotearoa. We accomplish this through the Network of Expertise MoE funding.

T&C

We enjoy sharing the free mahi with everyone. However, we occasionally experience people booking in and not attending the hui, which causes us over cater our events.

We have decided, that 48hrs notice must be given if you are unable to attend this hui or a fee of $30.00 is payable to impactED to cover catering costs. Invoices will be delivered to the email in the booking form, and payment in full is the responsibility of the owner of the email address to pay within 2 weeks of delivery.
