Empower your school with structured literacy PLD for years 7-8
Empower your students with the advanced literacy skills they need for future learning. Te Manu Ārahi supports teachers in guiding Years 7-8 learners to:
✔ Develop academic vocabulary and deeper comprehension skills
✔ Strengthen fluency and decoding for more advanced texts
✔ Apply structured literacy approaches to subject-specific reading and writing
✔ Think critically, articulate ideas, and engage with diverse perspectives
Inspired by the kākā, this PLD encourages students to find and use their voice, advocating for themselves and others.
What to Expect:
- Communities of Practice (CoPs) – Collaborative spaces for reflection, sharing, and refining structured literacy strategies.
- Full-Day Workshops – Hands-on learning focused on morphology, comprehension, fluency, and academic writing.
- Culturally Responsive Teaching – Strengthening student identity, agency, and engagement through Niho Taniwha.
Structured literacy approaches in Years 7-8 ensures students develop critical literacy skills, close learning gaps, and transition to secondary school with confidence.
