About this Event

In its ongoing commitment to support and provide opportunities for live performance, the Wallace Arts Trust is proud to present the Sunday Concert Series 2021 – an eclectic array of musicians and musical genres at the Wallace Arts Centre, Pah Homestead showcasing local performers.

Join us for this exclusive opportunity to enjoy an intimate evening of song with world-acclaimed opera star and tenor from Sol3 Mio, Pene Pati.

Hot on the heels of his hugely successful national tour as one third of popular operatic trio Sol3 Mio, this could well be your last chance for a while to hear Samoan tenor Pene Pati sing in this country before he heads back overseas for international opera commitments.

Pene Pati has been hailed as “the most exceptional tenor discovery of the last decade” (Opéra-Online). He has taken the operatic world by storm with debuts as Percy in Donizetti’s Anna Bolena at Opéra national de Bordeaux, Roméo in Gounod’s Roméo et Juliette at San Francisco Opera and Alfredo in Verdi’s La traviata at Moscow’s historic Bolshoi Theatre. While still a young artist on San Francisco Opera’s Adler Program, his critically acclaimed 2017 debut as Il Duca di Mantova in Verdi’s Rigoletto thrust the New Zealander into the limelight, receiving subsequent invitations to join productions of L’elisir d’amore (with NZ Opera), Madama Butterfly and Manon. Upcoming new roles include Mozart’s Mitridate, re di Ponto, Verdi’s Cassio in Otello and Donizetti’s Edgardo in Lucia di Lammermoor.

Previously based in Europe for debuts at Staatsoper Berlin, Wiener Staatsoper, Teatro San Carlo di Napoli and Opéra National de Paris, Pene recently returned to New Zealand due to the pandemic. He and his wife, international soprano Amina Edris, were selected as tutors at the New Zealand Opera School in Whanganui this summer and have also been much sought after for recitals throughout New Zealand during their time back home.

Sol3 Mio are an operatic pop vocal trio from Auckland, New Zealand. Comprised of Samoan-descended brother's Pene and Amitai Pati – both tenors – and their baritone cousin Moses Mackay, the group fuses classical, opera, and pop music with a playful wit and frequent nods to their Samoan heritage. All three are classically trained and their two albums, the self-titled debut Sol3 Mio and On Another Note, both topped the New Zealand Albums Chart for many weeks.
