There has been a lot of attention recently on the new “granny flat” legislation.
The Government is making it easier to build small standalone dwellings known as 'granny flats', improving affordable housing options and ensuring Kiwis have safe, healthy and durable homes to live in.
Giving New Zealanders more housing options, such as high-quality smaller homes, means we can:
- support families with different housing needs and budgets
- cater for Aotearoa New Zealand’s changing population and ways of living.
There are obvious and real concerns with the quality of these future buildings, given the current standard of construction in Aotearoa New Zealand.
The build team with the support of our young and progressive client have designed and built a SIP minor dwelling that Super Gran would be proud of:
- Quick to erect.
-Energy efficient.
-Airtight.
-Mechanically ventilated.
-Thermal bridge free.
-Super insulated.
-PVC windows.
Energy modelling using The Passive House Planning Package indicates that the granny that will live here needs only 1.0 kW to heat her whole house.
The Healthy (living room) Home Standards heating calculator says granny needs a 1.5kW heat her living room.
We’ve put a 3kW heat pump in as we couldn’t find anything smaller.
Come and check out this rear rental of rare quality and performance. It stands alone, while being the future of minor rental units for everyone.
We’ll be discussing what it takes to deliver granny flats for Kuia & Koro across the motu.
