About this event

To welcome in the new year, Basement Theatre are hosting ELECTRIC TANIWHA Matariki party for our peoples ✨✨✨

Featuring high quality experimental music by some of our most exciting next-gen Māori artists, it’s gonna be a super special night - think beautiful sounds, twinkly lights, mouth-watering kai and the best company ever.

The evening is free to attend and will be a mix of ticketed (only a handful of tickets are available so must register!) and open admission experiences.

TE KAAHU (aka Theia) (Waikato-Tainui, Ngāti Tīpā), 7pm - 8pm

Māori pop sensation Theia will perform waiata from her reo rangatira project TE KAAHU, including those from her recently released, critically-acclaimed album Te Kaahu O Rangi. This is ahead of the first ever official TE KAAHU performance the following night for the Matariki holiday, making this a super coveted (and super secret!) showing. Expect stripped back renditions of these exquisite waiata, which are imbued with mātauranga gifted from her kuia.

This is an intimate, sit-down experience in our main theatre space. Arrive from 6:30pm for drinks, and stick around after for free hāngi.

There are very limited tickets available, so don’t snooze on registering! Also with the limited seating in mind, we ask that you choose realistically, and get in touch with us in advance if you can’t come. You can either cancel your order, or email info@basementtheatre.co.nz This will help us release the seats to someone else.

Electric Taniwha is supported by the Local Activation Fund Programme, administered by Auckland Unlimited on behalf of the New Zealand Government.
