Quality Learning Spaces for a community shaped by context and Te Aō Māori
About this event
Join us to hear from the protagonists involved in the delivery of this unique learning environment.
Speakers, Hugh Tennant, from Tennent Brown Architects, and Rose McInerney, Principal of Te Raekura Redcliffs School, will offer insight into the specific qualities of the site and brief, driven by the essential Te Aō Māori directive.
A thoughtful and detailed brief was fueled by the compelling story of the reconstruction of the learning community following the Canterbury earthquakes.
The school site is a unique environment, rich in both natural and cultural history and subject to many constraints – including rockfall, location in a flood hazard area, geotechnical requirements, and residential context among others.
The school expressed in their brief a strong desire to connect with the site, with Te Aō Māori and for a new school that would support their pedagogy and values.
The project is conceived as a community of buildings that reference and connect the school to its site and history and provide a variety of diverse spaces for learning and play.
