About this event
Come join Te Herenga Waka o Orewa Marae and Mountains to Sea Conservation Trust to help us clean up Te Wei-Ti Awa and give back to te taiao. This event is supported by Auckland Sea Kayaks and the Dawson Whānau and is funded by Foundation North and Auckland Council.
Please note: Registrations are open to Silverdale/Orewa/Whangaparaoa/Stillwater locals first and will be circulated through the marae networks and local pages. If you live in Silverdale/Orewa/Whangaparaoa/Stillwater and would like early access please email sophie@mountainstosea.org.nz with your suburb. Otherwise registrations will open to the general public on 3rd October.

⌚️10.30am - 2.45pm
Please arrive 10-15 minutes prior to check in at the tent if you are kayaking. If you are running late please text Sophie on 0210645125.
🚣 On the Water – Joins us on a provided kayak or BYO to float down Te Wei-Ti removing harmful rubbish as we go. There will be opportunities to raft up along the way and hear about the local wildlife and importance of this awa in creating a thriving ecosystem.
🌿 On the Land – After finishing our float down Te Wei-Ti Awa we will end at Stillwater where there will be some time with Mountains to Sea Conservation Trust to learn more about your local freshwater species, as well as a yummy lunch courtesy of Te Herenga Waka o Orewa Marae! For those that do not want to join on the water we will have opportunities to join the clean up from land around the marae, then driving to meet us at Stillwater for the freshwater workshop and lunch.
🌞 Weather call -
Conditions permitting, we will run with light rain. A final weather call will be made the afternoon prior to the event. A back up date may be used. Cancellation due to weather will be communicated via email or Eventbrite.
🎟 Registrations -
- Children younger than 10 will not be able to participate in the kayaking activity.
- Children aged 10 - 13 need to have a confident adult in the back of their kayak.
- Children under 16 need an adult companion.
- Swimming ability and prior kayak experience required to participate on the water, please indicate your kayaking experience via registration.
- Please note that the maximum weight for the provided kayaks is 120kg per person.
- Expect to spend 2hrs kayaking.
What to bring -
- Clothing suitable for kayaking (no jeans please)
- Footwear you do not mind getting wet and muddy
- Water bottle
- Rain coat
- Hat, sunglasses and sunblock
- Gloves (we will have spares if needed)
- If you are bringing your own kayak please ensure you bring a PFD (life jacket)

🏠 Where -
Starting point: Te Herenga Waka o Orewa Marae, Silverdale
Ending point: 2 Duck Creek Road, Stillwater
We will have some shuttles available to transport people back to the marae after their kayak, if you are bringing your own kayak you will need to organise your own transport from the ending point at Stillwater.

Mountains to Sea Conservation Trust runs a series of free and subsidised events over the summer months — we rely on your support to make them happen. We appreciate donations, either cash/eftpos on the day, online or by giving a koha of your time volunteering at a future event.
❌ Cancellation policy -
Please cancel your spot via Eventbrite ASAP if you can no longer make it. If you give less than 24 hrs notice when cancelling your registration or you no show without a valid excuse (i.e COVID, or other illness/emergency) you may be sent an invoice of $20 per person. This is to ensure spaces do not go to waste and that people do not miss out on attending this free event.
