Event description

Description

When you teach from the heart, it requires your full energy and focus. If you are finding there are days that are taking more than you can give, this workshop is for you. We provide practical strategies for managing stress and overwhelm. Identifying what helps us thrive instead of just cope. A practical approach to self-care that can fit into the already busy lives that most ECE teachers have!

Teacher burnout and turnover is at an all-time high. We also know children in New Zealand are experiencing high rates of anxiety and stress. So how do we teach the importance of self-care, when we aren’t experiencing it ourselves? Come and join us as we share refreshments, tools, resources and inspiration.

We cover:

  • Identifying some of the key stressors teachers and families in New Zealand face.
    - How stress impacts decision making, health and our ability to care for ourselves and those around

  • Mindfulness
-Everyone from Nathan Wallis to Nigel Latta is promoting it! What is it? How can it help us
    - Mindful teaching- benefits for the teaching team and children
-Forest school and nature play approach- mindfulness outdoors!
-Practical fun approaches to implementing into daily practice.

  • Creating daily habits that nurture heart led teaching
-The science behind which practices are most effective and practical for ECE teachers and settings, especially those in periods of change and stress.
-Building on strengths, highlighting what works for ourselves, our team and our children.
-Nurturing a positive team atmosphere that supports each other

  • Building capacity to take positive action.

  • Creating plans for change
-There are unfortunately no magic bullets to remove the challenges we might face. These strategies can help us think more clearly, develop capacity, resilience and confidence to make choices for our long-term well-being, supporting others to do the same. None of us should continue to try and 'fill from an empty cup’!

We also offer:

* Ongoing support and resources for every participant

* A toolkit to use at home - including lovely resources from Awesome inc.

* Advocacy resources and contact details for seeking further support for your professional and personal well-being.

* Light refreshments will be available to enjoy throughout the session.
