A showcase of IT research in the Waikato.

Be inspired by leading software, computing and IT researchers from the Waikato, as they discuss their research ranging from Cloud Computing,IoT, Machine Learning, to Cyber Security.

Afterwards, you have the opportunity to talk to the researchers, interact with demos, and network with those involved in the IT industry.  

Gain insights and be inspired by world-class researchers to develop research to industry partnerships or continue your postgraduate journey.




Cloud Computing

  • ORCA (Oceania Researchers in Cloud and Adaptive-systems / Ohu Rangahau Kapua Aunoa) investigates the autonomous satisfaction of changing requirements in a dynamic environment, and its application on Clouds and Runtimes (Dr Panos Patros, University of Waikato)

  • .for Strategic Cloud Migration (Dr Monjur Ahmed, Wintec)

Machine Learning

  • The Machine Learning Group conducts research working on new, more efficient algorithms for machine learning and data mining, as well as new applications of machine learning.  (Professor Albert Bifet & Professor Bernhard Pfahringer, University of Waikato)

Data Science

  • WISARDS-Wintec Applied Research in Data Science (Lead by Dr Arthur Do Valle, Wintec) - We integrate existing Data Science tools and algorithms in a simple-to-use process so companies can easily get value from their data.

  • Is Knee Pain Information on YouTube Videos Useful? (Dr Michael Bosu, Wintec)

IoT

  • Current IoT Research involves personal monitoring technology in workplaces; investigating an innovative, ethical and evidence-based wearable monitoring approach for New Zealand workers in hazardous work environments. (Dr Judy Bowen & Associate Professor Annika Hinze, University of Waikato)

  • The Cacophony Project – Moore’s Law for New Zealand’s Birds – Using the latest technology to eliminate pests that threaten NZ’s birds. (Dr Tim Hunt, Wintec)

Networks and Security

  • CROW - Cyber Security The Cyber Security Researchers of Waikato focuses on research addressing data security from a user-centric perspective, specifically Provenance, User-Centricity, Visualisation, Economics, Hardware, and Tools & Datasets. (Dr Vimal Kumar, University of Waikato)

  • The WAND Network Research Group undertakes contract research and consulting in the telecommunications and computer networks, specialising in network measurement, modelling and simulation. (Dr Richard Nelson, University of Waikato)

  • Energy informatics -The Energy Informatics group conducts research in energy conservation, renewable energy, and end-use efficiency, focussing on electricity demand-side load management and storage mechanisms, smart micro-grids, smart homes, and electric vehicles. (Professor Mark Apperley, University of Waikato)
