Event description

Description

Remember that red book that's been on Nan's coffee table since the beginning of time?

Time to bring our whakapapa to life and find out more about our tūpuna, William and Karorina Armstrong and their children. Turangawaewae is where we will be to make more fun-tastic memories like we did in 1984 - that's 33 years ago!

Building Strong Whānau is our kaupapa for the four-day festival with fun activities to strengthen our whakapapa and build a strong whānau for the wellbeing and future of our community:

Honouring Strong Whānau - This is why we're here, to learn about our tūpuna, William and Karorina Armstrong. Listen to whānau researcher and historian, Uncle Leslie Tikipoti Koroheke and hear the stories that he has uncovered in his journeys around the country and the globe to bring our whakapapa alive. We visit the final resting places of William Armstrong and other descendants in the Waikato.

Creating Strong Whānau - Take part in our te reo Māori play, "Whakaāhuatia Mai" during the day or showcase your musical talents at night. You can explore new ways to share our stories and those of our tūpuna.

Moving Strong Whānau - Take a stroll along the Waikato river, or an early morning Crossfit workout, together we will hula, haka and zumba our way in to the New Year!

Competitive Strong Whānau - For those of us who crave a more competitive edge we have the Tamariki Top Team, the Hakarimata Summit Smash or the PGArmstrong Golf Masters Championship and more!

Discovering Strong Whānau - Join our team of specially trained social media networkers to interview and document our time together. Upload your stories at our media hub onsite at Turangawaewae.

All this and much, MUCH more!

Help us to make it a great celebration by registering early. There are questions for you to answer as you go through the registration process and a small fee is added to each ticket for using Eventbrite. We are expecting 500 people so it's great that we can use Eventbrite to manage all the registrations and the questions will help us organise the logistics for a safe and happy time together.

COMING SOON!

Armstrong T-shirts, Whakapapa Book will be available to order soon. Once you register here, you will receive all the details about the launch of the book and T-shirts by email.

The Official Programme will be launched at the end of November.
