Event Details

In this retreat, which spans 4 days and 3 nights, we blend qi gong with sitting and walking mindfulness meditation, as a way to move into stillness and listen to the wisdom of our own being. I call the retreat a mostly silent one, but there will be plenty of guidance, tuition and input from me and of course you are welcome to come and talk if you need to. The first evening and last morning after breakfast is not in silence, and there will be a one-hour talking session each day to share insights, questions and comments. 

You are welcome to join as much or as little of the scheduled programme as you wish; this is a retreat in which none of the usual social expectations are placed on you.  It offers you a very rare chance for you to come home to the OK-ness of yourself, just as you are. There will be time out for reflection and to walk the beautiful native bush tracks, as well as delicious vegetarian meals, which Te Moata is famous for.

We begin with a meal at 6pm on Friday 29 November, and finish round 2.30pm after lunch on Monday 2 December. You may arrive any time from 4 pm on the Friday to settle in.

There is no religion, dogma or belief systems proposed in this retreat.  Emphasis is given not to theory, but to your own experience.  The retreat is suitable for beginners, and for those with experience in mindfulness meditation and qi gong..

Cost: $485 (covers accommodation in simple curtained cubicles, delicious vegetarian meals, and tuition / guidance for the full retreat programme)
$15 surcharge if you request bedding; $10 surcharge / day for special diets:
$5 - $10 surcharge per person per night for single room or special hut requests.

Rachel Tobin is the director of the art of mindfulness. She teaches introduction-to-mindfulness courses, offers mindfulness training in organisations, and teaches one-day and residential mindfulness and movement retreats at various centres round NZ. She offers a mindfulness-based approach for coaching, mentioring and supervision on a 1:1 basis, and facilitates her 7-week programme for children, Now in the Moment. Rachel is also a poet - her first collection, Say it Naked, was published by Makaro Press at the end of last year.
