About this event
This one’s for the book nerds, the hermits, the new-to-towners and the I-can-only-do-one-short-social-occasion-a-weekers
Welcome to Bla Bla Book Swap
We are hoping to make this a monthly gathering, with the first event starting on Wednesday July 13th at The Pizza Library Bar in Mount Maunganui.
The event will be for 1.5 hours and will be hosted by the very lovely, very special, very incredible Malika Ganley.
Just before you grab your big sack and fill it with books, here is how it will work :
*You bring between 1-3 books to swap, and I said 3, not 300 - I’m looking at you over there, yeah you.
We don’t want to see the titles, so if you can wrap your book before attending the event that would be great, but if you forget then we will have some wrapping paper for you when you arrive.
We will send our ticket holders 3 Questions about your feelings for the wrapped book/books you're bringing a week before the event, and you answer these by writing it on the wrapping paper or sticking onto it, along with a short blurb of what the book is about, so each swap will be decided based on how the book has made someone feel, instead of judging a book by its cover 😉
*We will have two special guest speakers at each event.
Our first Guest Speaker will be the incredibly talented Melody Tuck, 2021 Slam poetry winner of Motif Poetry’s Spirit of the Slam Award.
Papua New Guinea born, Aotearoa raised Melody Tuck has enjoyed writing her whole life. Her passion for the art of Spoken Word was ignited during her time at Excel School of Performing Arts.
*We will provide some nibbles in the form of yummy pizza slices, cowabunga!
Pizza Library will be selling a deal of wine, cocktails and beers throughout.
This is a small event with seating provided so ticket sales will be very limited to our secret book society aka whoever gets them first.
