The Fossil Free Revolution: Creative Challenge

Creatives for Climate is partnering with Greenpeace and the coalition of over 30 non-profit organisations and grassroots groups, to issue a creative challenge in the fight to ban fossil fuel advertising in Europe.

“The most polluting multinationals in the world are all active in the fossil fuel market and continue to pollute with their gas, oil and coal business, ignoring science warnings about climate change and health risks.”

As a community of creatives, we understand the power of advertising and through this ban, the fossil fuel industry will lose a significant amount of its influence on the market. The ban will also see the end of the industry's notorious greenwashing in their advertising campaigns.

The goal of the event is to mobilize the advertising industry and creatives worldwide to contribute to the Fossil Free Revolution campaign reaching 1 million signatures. ‘With a European Citizens’ Initiative, the European Commission is legally required to respond if over a million people support the ECI in less than a year and their signatures are verified. It’s a very powerful tool to put something on the EU political agenda!’

The Fossil Free Revolution calls on the European Commission to propose an EU legislative act:

• prohibiting advertisements for fossil fuels, as well as air, road and water-borne transportation (other than transport services of general economic interest) powered by fossil fuels;
• prohibiting advertisements from any undertakings active in the market for fossil fuels, in particular by extracting, refining, supplying, distributing or selling fossil fuels;
• prohibiting sponsorships by undertakings defined under point 2 above, or using trademarks or commercial names used for fossil fuels
