Event description
What is the place of firearms in New Zealand society? Is there an urban/rural divide?

About this Event

In the lead up to the General Election, political parties of all stripes are vying for our votes.

But what are their views on firearms, and where do they see the place for them in New Zealand society?

Join us for an evening of conversation and debate at the Masterton Club, where we will host presentations from:

  • Dr Samara McPhedran, firearms academic

Australia's experience with changes to firearm law - has it made Australia a safer place?

  • Derek Daniell, 50 Shades of Green

The importance of firearms to farmers and New Zealand's rural communities

Following the presentations, we will be hosting a debate on the future of firearms in New Zealand. Participants include:

  • Hon Ron Mark MP, NZ First Wairarapa candidate & firearms spokesperson
  • Mike Butterick, National Party Wairarapa candidate
  • Celia Wade-Brown, Green Party Wairarapa candidate
  • Nicole McKee, ACT Party Rongotai candidate & firearms spokesperson

This event will also be livestreamed through the COLFO Facebook and YouTube channels, and available on Wairarapa's Freeview Channel 41.
