Description

The Future of Memory

The past decade has seen a significant reconceptualization of memory. Instead of focusing on remembering the past, within the field of cognitive neuroscience memory is now considered as critical to many aspects of cognitive functioning and psychological wellbeing. The work of Professor Addis has been at the forefront of this change, demonstrating the close links between memory and abilities such as future thinking, creativity and identity.

In this lecture, Professor Addis will reflect on her past research on autobiographical memory, in particular her investigations of how changes in memory function in older age and depression impacts upon imagining the future. Professor Addis will also discuss her future research directions, including the exploration of potential interventions for enhancing future thinking, with the hope of facilitating individuals to create vivid and bright futures.
