About your presenter
Hi, I'm Dr Rebecca Stafford, aka Dr Habit. I've been studying & practicing psychology for 15 years - just so you didn't have to. You're welcome. However I became obsessed with habits when I need to get from university drop-out to PhD (it helps majoring in psychology!).
I started my habit crusade by breaking bad study habits such as procrastination (trouble starting) and perfectionism (= fancy procrastination = trouble finishing).
However, since the fundamentals of habit change are the SAME FOR ALL HABITS I've since helped people increase their exercise, lose weight, quit smoking and, of course, quit procrastinating.
And it's not just for humans. I've even helped my feral cat quit procrastinating! There's a 1-minute video at the end of this page showing my cat doing her obstacle course - including sitting on command and jumping through a hoop.
Why on earth did I train my cat to do an obstacle course, I hear you ask? Well, admittedly she's an extremely smart cat but I did want to hint at the wide applications of the basics of behaviour modification.
WHAT'S IN THE PRESENTATION?

* We'll also cover the little-known basics of motivation - and how you can personalize them to maximise your motivation.
* You'll learn simple, proven techniques, for boosting your willpower & self-control.
* You'll learn the common ways we (unintentionally) make changing habits so hard - and how to make it easier!
* We'll also touch on specific habits such as procrastination, exercise and emotional eating habits. We'll also look at the mental habits of stress and anxiety. Yes stress and anxiety are habits. And habits can be changed.

Other habit-change resources
A great book I reccomend the most is 'The Now Habit' by Dr Neil Fiore. This book saved my bacon during my four-year-PhD-crisis. The Now Habit does focus on beating academic procrastination - but is equally applicable to any form of procrastination ("Yes Honey, I promise I'll paint the spare room next week. Yes, I know I've already promised that nine times ...", " Sure Mum, I'll clean my bedroom later ... what do you mean it IS later!?" " Yeah boss, sorry the project is late ... again," etc. etc.)

FAQ: What if the event is cancelled due to Covid?
