Event description

Description

A five day workshop as part of Summer School 2017

Join Liam in a workshop that will help deepen your drawing and painting skills. Explore ways of combining the real and the unreal to build a visual narrative using original ideas and imagery. Bring along a photo of someone special to you and learn how to manipulate this image into a narrative composition which has more meaning, life and reflects the subject’s true identity.

About Liam Barr:

Liam was born in Scotland in 1966 and immigrated to New Zealand with his family in 1974. Following a period of travel overseas, Barr settled in Perth, Western Australia, where he trained and worked as a graphic designer before returning to New Zealand in 2004 to further develop his art practice. His narrative works have ranged from magic surrealism to pioneer-themed portraits. He draws reference from fiction as well as subjective truths, creating compositions which weave together all manner of symbolism, iconography and historical allegory. Barr’s paintings have been exhibited in public and dealer galleries throughout New Zealand and his work has featured in exhibitions in Canada and Australia.
