A five day workshop as part of Summer School 2017
Join Liam in a workshop that will help deepen your drawing and painting skills. Explore ways of combining the real and the unreal to build a visual narrative using original ideas and imagery. Bring along a photo of someone special to you and learn how to manipulate this image into a narrative composition which has more meaning, life and reflects the subject’s true identity.
About Liam Barr:
Liam was born in Scotland in 1966 and immigrated to New Zealand with his family in 1974. Following a period of travel overseas, Barr settled in Perth, Western Australia, where he trained and worked as a graphic designer before returning to New Zealand in 2004 to further develop his art practice. His narrative works have ranged from magic surrealism to pioneer-themed portraits. He draws reference from fiction as well as subjective truths, creating compositions which weave together all manner of symbolism, iconography and historical allegory.
