Event description

Description

This course with artist Linda Holloway is an exploration around methods and materiality in painting. It will allow students, who already have experience in painting, to experiment, develop an enquiry, enrich their skills, and their confidence in their work with the support of an experienced mentor. Linda Holloway will guide the students and support them to create their own artwork after a series of guided exercises which will allow progress in technique as well as developing a critical eye.

This course is ideal for students with previous experience in painting or with a personal art practice, who want assistance to examine their practice and push their own boundaries.

The course comprises 30 hours of tuition and focuses on the students work in progress and practical exercises. It runs over 6 evening classes (6pm to 9pm) and culminates with a weekend practice (9.30am to 4.30pm both days) at the end of the 6 weeks.

Schedule:

Week 1: Assessing where the students are at and provide individual mentoring

Week 2 & 3: Practical exercise: Interpreting the landscape

Week 4 & 5: Practical Exercise: Interpreting the figure

Week 6: Re-assessing what has been learnt, integrating it into personal art practice, and begin a new work to be developed at the weekend intensive.

Weekend: Personal work development with tutor supervision and guidance

Tutor’s note:

Please bring between 3 and 5 of your work at the first session (or photos of your work).

THE 6 WEEKS COURSE WILL RUN OVER 7 WEEKS FROM WEDNESDAY EVENING 20 SEPTEMBER TO WEDNESDAY 1 NOVEMBER (NO CLASS ON 11 OCTOBER)

AND ON SATURDAY 4 AND SUNDAY 5 NOVEMBER.

EACH EVENING CLASS WILL START AT 6PM AND FINISH AT 9PM.

THE WEEKEND CLASSES WILL START AT 10AM AND FINISH AT 4.30PM BOTH DAYS (1/2 LUNCH BREAK - BYO)

About Linda Holloway:

Linda Holloway completed her Master of Fine Arts at Elam in 2004 and has been exhibiting regularly since. Her work is in collections in New Zealand and abroad. She has been selected several times as a Wallace finalist and was selected to attend the Vienna Festival as part of the ‘skirt’ collaborative.

Holloway uses the natural characteristics of pigments and paints, exploring the range of their materiality, working with their fluidity and transparency in layers of interaction which allow them to act as metaphors in themselves.
