Description

The School of Graduate Studies has secured internationally-renowned speaker, educator and researcher Hugh Kearns to present two invaluable workshops specifically for those studying at doctoral level. We offer these completely free of charge to all current University of Auckland research students.

The seven secrets of highly successful research students

As a doctoral candidate, do you wonder what you can do to finish on time, to overcome isolation, doubt and writer’s block, and to - somehow - enjoy the process? Do you wonder how you can organise your work in order to spend guilt-free time with family and friends and perhaps even have... holidays?

Hugh Kearns describes the key habits that research (and his team's experience with thousands of students) shows will make a difference to how quickly and easily you complete your doctoral studies. These habits can greatly reduce the stress, and even increase the pleasure, involved in completing a doctoral degree.

The workshop helps you to understand how to increase your effectiveness and outcomes in the following key areas:

  • dealing with your supervisor
  • structuring your study time
  • your attitude to your research
  • dealing with writer’s block or having difficulty writing
  • getting the help you need when you are stuck
  • juggling multiple commitments and never having enough time
  • keeping on going when the going gets tough

Who is this workshop for?

The content of this workshop will be particularly useful to doctoral candidates who are early in their candidature, but we stongly encourage all current doctoral candidates to register and take advantage of this valuable opportunity.
