It’s 1840 and all the players are here at the bottom of the world, at the dawn of the great new British colony: Port Nicholson, Wellington, New Zealand.
Toi Whakaari New Zealand Drama School is excited to present The Undertow: The Ragged, the first instalment of writer Helen Pearse-Otene’s quartet of plays about Wellington.
The Ragged explores the early relationships between settlers, the New Zealand Company, and tangata whenua as the settlers try to find their own place to call home.
Follow the struggles of the ordinary, yet extraordinary people who called Wellington home in 1840.
Directed by Regan Taylor and featuring the work of Second Year Acting, Second and Third Year Design and Management, Second Year Costume and Set & Props students from Toi Whakaari.
By arrangement with Playmarket NZ
