Three Minute Thesis (3MT®) Finals

An 80,000 word PhD thesis would take nine hours to present. Their time limit... three minutes.

The University of Auckland Three Minute Thesis Final 2019 presents winning postgraduate research presentations from across our faculties. Come along to cheer on our finalists as they battle it out against the clock! Each will have just 180 seconds to describe their entire research project with nothing to help them but a single, static slide. A second over their time limit and... they're out!

This is a night not to miss. You'll get a sneak peak into some of the University's fascinating postgraduate research, the chance to vote your favourite in as the winner of the 2019 People's Choice Award and perhaps even bag yourself an audience spot prize!

Once the presentations are over, you're invited to celebrate with our participants at the evening reception with free food, drinks and music for all.

It's the culmination of months of preparation and faculty heats, and there are some fantastic prizes to be won!

Prizes for the Doctoral Winner include:

• A return flight to Brisbane (plus accommodation) to compete in the 3MT Asia-Pacific Final
• Entry to the U21 3MT Virtual competition, with a chance of winning a travel scholarship of US$2,500
• $500 prize money
• A CITIZEN Eco-drive watch
• Full conference delegate pass from Conferenz (to be agreed with the winner)
• $300 STA Travel vouchers
• $100 AUP vouchers

Prizes for the Masters Winner include:

• A return flight to Otago (and accommodation) for the 3MT Inter-University Masters Final
• A CITIZEN Eco-drive watch

3MT® celebrates the discoveries made by research students and encourages their skill in communicating the importance of research to the broader community.
