China draws a range of opinions and perspectives these days, but regardless of viewpoint one thing is clear – it is always in the news.

But with no New Zealand media organisations based in China (although some kiwi journalists work for news agencies from other countries), there are limited opportunities for New Zealand media to experience and report on China first-hand.

The New Zealand China Council 2025 Media Trip that took place in September offered a unique opportunity for two kiwi journalists to “get under the hood” of our largest trade partner and important regional neighbour. This annual project is co-organised and co-funded by our Council and the Chinese People’s Institute of Foreign Affairs (CPIFA).

The two participating journalists this year — Dita De Boni (Auckland Business Editor, The Post/Stuff Group) and Liam Dann (Editor-at-Large, NZ Herald) — travelled to Beijing, Shanghai and Shenzhen, meeting a range of local, New Zealand and other contacts and organisations.

Join us to hear about their trip and their own observations on China in 2025 – and why it matters to us here in New Zealand.

A light lunch will be served.
