Event description

Description

Ticket entitles you to attend both days of Mental Health First Aid training.

What is Mental Health First Aid (MHFA)?

Mental health first aid is the help given to someone developing a mental health issue, such as depression, anxiety, or substance misuse or who is in a mental health crisis, like panic attacks, self-injury, aggressive behaviour.

Mental health first aid is given until appropriate professional treatment is received or until the crisis resolves.

What will you learn?

Our 2-Day MHFA workshop teaches you how to assist someone who is developing a mental illness or is in a mental health crisis. During this workshop you will learn the ALGEE five steps to assisting:

Approach, assess and assist any crisis

Listen without judging

Give support and information

Encourage relevant professional

Encourage other supports

Please note, the content covered in this workshop is the same as the MHFA community workshop however we felt it was appropriate to create a separate space for workplace Mental Health First Aiders due to demand. This also enables us to focus the training to fit a workplace environment when supporting staff, colleagues, customers and clients.

Who can attend a MHFA course?

This course is provided free of charge to anyone who wishes to become Mental Health First Aid trained in their workplace and lives in the Counties Manukau DHB district. The workshop is also free for those who work in the Counties Manukau district. If you don't live/work within Counties Manukau and would like to attend there is a fee is $250.00 +gst. Please contact 021 892 789 or email mhfa@middlemore.co.nz. Discounted rates apply to NGO'S and those that work in the health and education sectors.

Please note - This training should not be used in place of government approved Mental health training when working with vulnerable service users. The workshops provide an introductory level of training and would not be appropriate for Mental Health workers.
