Description

Tidy Kiwi Run

What:

The Tidy Kiwi Run is a New Zealand based virtual run in which participants complete a series of physical challenges – on your own time, from wherever you are.

The Tidy Kiwi Run is in support of Keep New Zealand Beautiful – a charitable trust dedicated to keeping New Zealand communities clean, safe and beautiful. Their campaigns ‘Be A Tidy Kiwi’ and ‘Do the Right Thing’ have been part of New Zealand culture for nearly 50 years. Keep New Zealand Beautiful Clean-Up Week takes place September 2016.

KNZB

Pay:

$15 (includes a $5 donation to Keep New Zealand Beautiful)

Do:

Run

Between Sunday September 11th and Saturday September 17th, do the virtual run or challenge:

1a) Tidy Kiwi Virtual Run

  • Run 5km (or more)
  • Pick up any litter you see

The run can be done wherever you like, but outdoors in nature is our recommended option. Go exploring somewhere that could use a clean up. Now's your excuse to go pick up the litter that everyone else has been ignoring, and make the area beautiful again.

Or,

1b) Tidy Kiwi Virtual Challenge

Run 5km (or more), with these challenges:

  • 100 star jumps

  • 50m of crawling

  • 2mins of sprinting

  • 25 pullups

  • 50m of burpee broad jumps

  • Pick up any litter you see

The challenges can be spread out and accumulated throughout the length of the run, or done all at once - you choose how you'd like to structure the challenges to fit within the 5km distance.

2) Join in the conversation

Upload any photos/videos you take to social media with the hashtag #tidykiwirun and join in the conversation with other participants

  • Fundraise for Keep New Zealand Beautiful – you could collect money, get pledgers, or come up with your own brilliant idea to spread the word and support keeping NZ clean and amazing

  • Organise a meetup – set a meetup time and get some people together to complete the challenge as a group. You can do the Tidy Kiwi Run solo, but it’s more fun socially

FAQ:

How do I select wheter I want to do the run or the challenge?

There's no need to select during registration. Once you've registered, you can decide for yourself which you'd prefer to do.

Can I do the event without paying?

Sure. But we encourage you to still give to Keep New Zealand Beautiful. You also won’t receive the event benefits.

Can I complete the event outside of the timeframe?

Yes. However we will only be sharing photos/videos submitted within the timeframe.

Do I have to be in NZ to enter?

No, you can enter from anywhere in the world. The donation portion of your entry fee will still go to Keep New Zealand Beautiful however.

I entered but was unable to do the run, can I get a refund?

Please contact us.

How do you track if people actually do the run or challenges?

We don’t. It’s up to participants to be honest with themselves, and be responsible for keeping the environment litter free.

What are burpee broad jumps?

See this video example https://youtu.be/hxc7t-dVY3I. A good way to do them during your run could be to plan your running route to go past a school or a public sport’s field, and complete the burpee broad jumps across the length of the sports field.

What if I can’t do a single pullup, how am I meant to do 25?

You could scale the challenge to do resisted lowers instead, which involves only the lowering part of the pullup motion by jumping or climbing up to the top position of the pullup and then lowering yourself down to hanging as slowly as possible. Or contact us for other ideas.

I don’t think I can physically do the challenges, what can I do?

You can scale the challenges to suit your own ability. Contact us for ideas.
