Event info

The Tidy Kiwi Run is a virtual run supporting Keep New Zealand Beautiful - a charitable trust dedicated to keeping New Zealand communities clean, safe and beautiful.

Tidy Kiwi Run

By participating in the Tidy Kiwi Run this January, your physical efforts help keep New Zealand beautiful! We live in a stunning country, chuck on some running shoes and get amongst it.

What is a virtual run?

A virtual run is an event that can be run (or walked) from any location you choose. You can run, jog, or walk on the road, on the trail, or on the track (or even at another race). You can do it at your own pace by yourself, with friends, or with your running club or gym buddies.

What to do

It's as simple as:

  • Run 5km, between the event dates of January 21-27
  • Pickup any litter you see during your run

Be active, keeping NZ beautiful! Your entry fee includes a $5 donation to the charity Keep NZ Beautiful.

As part of running in the Tidy Kiwi Run, you will receive an event finisher sticker posted to you.

Results

Take a photo of any trash collected - and post it on social media with the hashtag #tidykiwirun, or email it to us at maxbell@movementunleashed.com.

Feel free to send us any other photos or videos - we'd love to hear about where you ran, what sort of trash you tidied up, and how you got on carrying it.

Throughout the event, January 21-27, selected posts will be shared on the Obstacle Racers NZ facebook page.

Together we can take on the virtual run challenge and clean up New Zealand.

FAQs

What is a virtual run?

A virtual run is an event that can be run (or walked) from any location you choose. You can run, jog, or walk on the road, on the trail, or on the track (or even at another race). You can do it at your own pace with friends, with your running club or gym buddies, or by yourself.

Why does only a portion of the entry go to charity? Where does the rest of the entry fee go?

Each entry includes a $5 donation to the charity Keep New Zealand Beautiful. The remaining money from each entry covers event costs (printing and postage to entrants, and online transaction fees), plus a small margin goes towards the running of the website Obstacle Racers NZ. The Tidy Kiwi Run is being promoted and organised through the website Obstacle Racers NZ.

How hard is the run/how fit do I need to be?

You can walk or run the 5km, it's entirelly up to you. For most people completing a 5km distance at a leisurly pace will not be overly tasking, but carrying litter collected along the way will make the 5km an entirelly different experience. Feel free to take the 5km at your own pace.

How long will the run take?

It depends on your fitness level and the sort of terrain covered, but it may take 30-60 minutes to run 5km and collect litter.

Where should I run?

Pick a location outdoors, preferabbly somewhere scenic and in need of a bit of tidying up. We discourage you from completing the run indoors on a treadmill.

Do I have to be in New Zealand to enter?

No, you can enter from anywhere in the world. But a portion of your entry fee will be donated to Keep New Zealand Beautiful, a New Zealand based charity. The event timeframe is set to NZ time and the entry fee is in NZ dollars.

Can I complete the event outside of the timeframe?

Yes. But we encourage you to join the experience by completing it during the timeframe.

What's the refund policy?

If you find you can no longer participate, or would like a refund for another reason, refund will be given up to 1 day before the event.
