Event description

Description

The Trauma Outcomes Performance Improvement Course is coming to NZ.

This course is highly regarded in the United States where it is widely taught in trauma centres.

It is taught to all members of the trauma system team who participate in the ongoing assessment, evaluation and improvement of trauma care. TOPIC focuses on the continuum of trauma care with a structured review of process and discussions of strategies to monitor trauma patient outcomes.

We are particularly thrilled that two highly experienced clinicians will be teaching this one day course:

Dr Don Jenkins is a General Surgeon and Professor of Trauma and Emergency Surgery at San Antonio in Texas. Don has had a stellar career in the US Military where he was deployed as Trauma Director in Iraq and Afghanistan. On return to civilian life he became trauma medical director or the Mayo Clinic’s Level 1 trauma centre, and transformed the Minnesota Trauma System in one of the best in the world. In 2014, the American Legion presented Don with the Distinguished Service Medal which includes Presidents Ford, Reagan, and Bush as previous recipients.

Kathie Martin has been the Trauma Program Nurse Director at the United States Army military hospital, Landstuhl. She has a strong critical care nursing background and served as the Trauma Program Manager at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania from 1990-2001. Kathleen has previously served as a member of the Board of Directors for the Society of Trauma Nurses (STN), and Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Trauma Nursing. She is national chair of the TOPIC Committee.
