Nelson Tasman Youth Workers Collective proudly presents Tough as Nails - Engaging with Trauma Impacted Rangatahi.
We all know them, invincible in their own mind, no real hope for a better tomorrow, no trust in anybody else any more than themselves: tough as nails, and once you get to know them better, they are just young people, often hurt, neglected, traumatised and unsure what will happen tomorrow.
The workshop is a fascinating combination of brain development, trauma informed practise, motivational interviewing and therapeutic crisis intervention and will explore;
• Understanding the core of the issue
• Engaging with trauma effected youth (offenders)
• Finding their “spark” and motivation to change
• Setting meaningful goals
• Effectively dealing with resistance and/or ambivalence
• Helping them on their path to achieve “hopes and dreams”
This training is suitable for anyone who works with young people - youth/social workers, teachers, coaches, parents, caregivers. Participants will develop and refine engagement skills so they can quickly build rapport with young people in way that is both safe and effective.
