Every organisation has a culture, but does this culture align with the goals of the business?

A company's culture is like it's own unique fingerprint, it may be similar to others but it's uniquely distinct to your business. It shapes your own corporate identity and therefore the growth of a business, paving the way for a lasting legacy. If you can see you're making a positive impact within the company and in the community you operate in, then you know it's working.

However, it's not something we always get right. Over 90% of company culture initiatives underperform for one very simple reason: organisations do not understand enough about what culture actually is, or how culture is structured or functions, to enable them to optimise their culture change process.

The lesson here is; 'You cannot change culture if you don't understand culture!'

Learning to understand culture is the fundamental requirement to accessing the key aspects of culture that enable it to change, develop or transform.

Michael Henderson, Corporate Anthropologist and Culture Expert joins us for this Leadership Action Network event to talk about just this!

About Michael:

Michael is a Corporate Anthropologist, which means his job is to help organisations learn the role of culture in delivering workplace performance, business results, customer experience and employee satisfaction.

As an anthropologist Michael is able to deliver deep insights into culture that go far beyond what many organisations are aware of, including; what culture actually is, what culture does, how culture forms and is structured and who really owns a culture. Michael has a degree in Anthropology and has travelled extensively for years studying and participating in both indigenous and organisational cultures around the world. The subsequent insights into why organisations very rarely optimised their culture or were able to align them to their business strategy and brands are the foundation of his work and books.
