Join us after hours in the 2020 World's Best Bookshop for our third bookclub!
About this event
You’re invited to join us after hours for another gorgeous evening discussing great books at our bookclub.
Roger will be discussing the works of author Akwaeke Emezi, a non-binary, transgender, Nigerian-born writer of poetry, fiction and memoir based in the USA. You might know them from their highly acclaimed first novel Freshwater and their other novel Bitter and memoir Dear Senthuran - the two we recommend you read for the bookclub.
Not afraid of circling controversy Emezi gives a voice to black, queer, trans characters struggling to inhabit the harsh worlds they’ve been born into, showing us doors to possibilities we might not have even thought existed. Their work has been described as “like [Madeline] L'Engle…glorious.”. “explore(ing) lives outside society’s expectations”, and "a dazzling literary talent whose works cut to the quick of the spiritual self."
Frances will be discussing Greedy: Notes from a Bisexual Who Wants Too Much by Jen Winston. A hilarious and whip-smart collection of essays, offering an intimate look at bisexuality, gender, and, of course, sex. Perfect for fans of Lindy West, Samantha Irby, and Rebecca Solnit—and anyone who wants, and deserves, to be seen.
Tickets are $5 and redeemable against book purchases made on the night. And is it really a bookclub if there isn’t wine?
