Urban Food Forest Tour and Design
Event Information
About this Event
Learn about the principles of food forest design, site, aspect, soils and plant choice considerations with landscape architect and organic gardener, Carl Pickens.
Then join Carl and EcoMatters community garden coordinator, Meg Liptrot for a tour of EcoMatters 16 year old food forest.
This community garden has been progressively developed since 2004 in conjunction with former Unitec organics lecturer, Brendan Hoare and is designed along permaculture lines.
After a shared lunch, get together for a collaborative design charrette helping develop a new concept for a food forest at Olympic Park.
About the tutor:
In addition to landscape architecture, Carl studied organic horticulture at Lincoln University and has managed a biodynamic market garden. He has learnt valuable techniques for managing productive landscapes in an efficient way.
In 2019 he undertook a Churchill fellowship to study urban agriculture in Europe.
* In case of a Covid level change to 3 or 4, we will hold the first half of this workshop as a webinar, the second half in situ at a later date.
Hosted by EcoMatters and supported by the Whau Low Carbon Network, thanks to Whau Local Board and Auckland Council.
